Maggies Monday Morning Blues Maggie let out an audibly resigned breath of air, pinching her lips together as she did so... Then, she bent down beside the cardboard box in-front of her, balanced precariously on her high-heels and being extremely careful not to let the brim of her skirt catch on her ass, the way it sometimes did when she wasnt being careful. Just this moment, Maggie didnt feel like giving every man, woman and child waiting at Gate 8 of the Melbourne International Airport the chance to see her exposed panties at 4 a.m. on a Monday morning. Then again, Maggie thought, a little bitterly, at my age, I shouldnt complain if anybody wants to take a peek at *my ass*. She sliced the packing-tape with a box-cutter, then pulled the cardboard flaps back, revealing a two-by-two grid made out of shiny Hustler magazines. This was, by far, the least pleasant part of her job. Maggie loathed having to stack the Playboys and the Hustlers and the Penthouses onto the shelves. It wasnt that she hated pornography itself in any way. Or that she thought it was irresponsible to sell these magazines at the same magazine-stand as Spongebob comics and miniature LEGO planes (though, it was indeed odd to her). No... They look like a fantasy out of one of these magazines, Maggie thought, bitter again. Even the normally ugly fluorescent lights in the air-port seemed unnaturally flattering on their faces. God, I hate them... She was made to wear a very similar blue skirt to the one they wore as part of their uniform, only they were able to wear theirs with a sense of purpose, or desirability. I mean, Maggies self-conscience thoughts continued on relentlessly, they make sexy flight attendant costumes for Halloween, but no one would ever make a sexy magazine sales-woman costume. Thats why every man over twelve in this room is staring at them right now, oogling their legs, unconsciencly holding their breath until they have walked past.. But not me... She grabbed two more handfuls of magazines, then stood and placed them on the shelf. Maggie was glad, at least, that there was only half a shelf to go... The irony is, Maggie thought, a little disappointed in herself, I worked at a sex-store before I was even legal age... What happened to that girl? The Actual Irony Henry picked up a Snickers bar from next to the counter and pretended to be engrossed in reading the nutritional contents, while actually staring at the woman bent over the magazine-rack. Hed been standing there for a minute, maybe more, and only now had the thought to pick up some prop as cover occurred to him, in case the older woman in question happened to glance over her shoulder in his direction.
