If you want a beach trip, but just can't put up with the crowds and hullabaloo in more populated areas, give Oak Island a try. The island, which consists of Caswell Beach, Yaupon Beach and Long Beach is located about 30 miles south of Wilmington in Brunswick County.

Olive Garden comes to mind. I know many people who cannot go to Italian restaurants without eating the amazing variety of bread that magically appears on the table. If you can't resist the bread, try to resist the restaurant.

I thought they might be taking us to a hotel, and that's exactly what happened. Only it was a five star hotel, and one of the very best in the city. We swam in a huge pool, wined and dined from a all you can eat restaurants near me full of both Thai and Western cuisine. A waiter asked politely if the wine was satisfactory. We hit the sauna and pretended to work out in the gym. Retiring to our rooms, we drank duty free gin and watched Barfly on cable. I was young then.

For a finale, I went to grab some dessert. There were numerous little cake samples to choose from, plus ice cream and gelatins of all colors and flavors. I could only see eating one small piece of cake; I took a chocolate torte. Seated back at my table, I took three swift bites of my torte and was done for good.
