There are numerous superstitions about the cards themselves that are used for cartomancy. I seek titles, check out writers, locate a publication that looks interesting, and look at these guys at covers. I punch in the amount of the e-book reader I am carrying, and the first 40 or 50 pages of the novel are downloaded to the reader. I take the e-book reader to a soft seat, hook one leg over the armrest, and read. Perhaps I find 10 publications that appear interesting. I download the excerpt from each.
A bookstore can order 1,000 copies of a publication. Some will be sold right away, but others are going to sit in inventory for quite a long time. Using print on demand publishing along with a kanban system, many small orders are placed. Stock is kept at the absolute minimum, prices are reduced, along with the publications are almost always available when demanded. As the novel shopper, I get the book I desire, either in or right now a few days. I'm another happy bookstore customer.
