Natural gas continues to be one of the lowest cost and most efficient energy sources available. Bioblends for heating oil are a clean responsible alternative to natural gas heating systems and perform admirably against all other heating systems." The report further states, Given that biodiesel blends with heating oil GHG emissions can easily be lower than natural gas GHG emissions, there is no climate change reason for fuel switching from oil to natural gas."

Occasionally, the gas can collect in high enough quantities to cause a deadly explosion, disintegrating one or more buildings in the process. The gas usually dissipates readily outdoors, but can sometimes collect in dangerous quantities if flow rates are high enough. However, considering the tens of millions of structures that use the fuel, the individual risk of using natural gas is very low. This comes to about 49 MJ (≈13.5 kWh ) for 1 kg of natural gas (assuming a density of 0.8 kg m−3, an approximate value). Thus, if the price of gas is $10 per million BTUs on the NYMEX, the contract is worth $100,000.

The measurement of a gas heater's warming capacity isn't just about room size, it's also about how quickly the heater can warm the space. For fast heating, choose the biggest capacity (measured in MJ/h) suitable for the room. They're very efficient - about 90% of the energy content of the gas is transformed into heat. They provide instant heat - and lots of it. Unflued gas heaters come with a capacity of up to 25 MJ/h (megajoules per hour). That's equivalent to more than 6kW of electric heating - the same as you'd get from three 2kW electric heaters.

Overall, from 2009 to 2013, Canadian gas exports to the U.S. have declined by 12% and imports from the U.S. have increased by 28%, yielding a 24% decline in net exports. Based on a consolidation of selected expert consultants' forecasts, benchmark Alberta wholesale natural gas prices (AECO) are expected to increase slightly moving into the winter heating season. For the 2015 calendar year, the consultants forecast lower natural gas prices, projecting an average price of $3.56/GJ. Heating oil doesn't ignite until its temperature reaches 140 degrees, when it vaporizes.

When compared the fuels over a 100-year timeframe, NORA found that Bioheat GHG emissions at a 13.7 percent blend level (slightly less than B14) are equivalent to natural gas GHG emissions. When a 100-year timeframe is used and indirect land use change is taken into account, Bioheat GHG emissions at a 14.6 percent blend level match natural gas GHG emissions. Using the IPCC Fourth Technical Report's 20-year shows that a less than 2 percent biodiesel blend with ULSHO is equivalent to natural gas with respect to CO2-equivalent emissions."
